We recently just got back from a trip to Phoenix, Arizona and spent some time at the Infusionsoft Headquarters.
After a four day intensive training we are now a proud Certified Partner of Infusionsoft.
Additionally, just prior to that, we became certified partners of Mobit, a mobile marketing automation platform.
Now you may be saying: “Infusionsoft doesn’t have anything to do with mobile marketing” but let me share a quick story…
A quick backstory from my big brand days…
While I was the Head of Mobile at Cabela’s, we launched their mobile messaging program.
The cool thing about working at a large organization such as Cabela’s is that they have acquired tons of data about their customers over the years they’ve been in business.
I’m not talking only about the “I know the last product my customer purchased” kind of data either.
While they had that, I’m really talking about the “we know that there is a 90% chance a women’s hoody will be purchased when a fishing rod of over $500 is purchased” kind of data.
Literally, this was a marketers dream and I was ready to have a field day creating some awesome mobile messaging programs that were super targeted.
One of the biggest challenges small businesses face is that they aren’t doing a good job of collecting customer data to send targeted and relevant communications.
That has a lot to do with the tools that are available at a small business budget. More on that in a minute.
The big brands unfair advantage…
I thought that since I was at a large organization that we could obviously access that data for marketing purposes.
We have the resources and budget to connect these various third party software solutions to the data center where all the customer data lived.
Not so fast…
Boy, was I surprised to find out that this was nowhere near being ready.
While it is completely possible, the effort, money and resources (not including the political and legal challenges) required to make this sort of thing possible was not in my short term future.
I found that there were no API’s ready to let all these third party systems talk to each other to achieve the personalization and targeting I was hoping for.
Now, don’t go asking me if they can finally do this because I have no idea. My guess is they are doing some but not near where they want to be. But that pretty much is where most businesses are at, even at that level.
The myth you’ve been telling yourself…
As a small business owner, you may have been telling yourself that you can’t compete for a lot of the reasons.
The main reasons is probably that You don’t have the resources or the budget.
