Today on Mobile Mixed we’re joined by Louis Gump, the VP of CNN Mobile. It’s hard to find the right place to even start explaining how knowledgable Louis is when it comes to mobile. He got started earlier than most while with The Weather Channel implementing successful mobile strategies incorporating the mobile web and SMS. Now with CNN, Louis aims to make news consumable from any device assuring the their customers have the best possible experience. Louis make sure that CNN approaches mobile with a user first attitude that all brands/businesses should follow.

Today we discuss:

  • Why if your business doesn’t go mobile you’ll lose a competitive advantage
  • Why you should start with the assumption that mobile is different
  • How responsive design can be OK in moderation but dangerous taken to its extreme
  • Why your customer always comes first vs a technological solution

Jared is one of the savviest mobile marketers in the industry and has been in the mobile space for over a decade building his company. As a pioneer of the mobile health movement he’s leveraging mobile to help his clients make a difference.

Today, Jared and I talk about the importance of mobile health, how retailers are using mobile to grow their business and the importance of marketing 101. You’ve heard me say it before but too often those diving into mobile don’t look at mobile as a tool to reach specifically defined goals and objectives. They just view it as tool and move forward with no real strategy. It’s the biggest mistake you can make and Jared does a great job with his clients assuring they get started while also understanding “why” they should adding mobile to their marketing mix.

Today on Mobile Mixed: We got an awesome entrepreneur in Jonathan C. Kay joining us. Not only has Jonathan been known as the “Ambassador of Buzz” but he is also a NY Giants fan, something we both have in common. He’s a wise wise man. Jonathan is a super inspiring entrepreneur and and built a reputation for himself while at Grasshopper but now he is going mobile and helping developers sell their apps at Apptopia. Apptopia is a secondary marketplace for the purchase and sales of applications.

With over 1 million apps in the marketplace not all apps are going to be the million dollar machines like some of us have seen recently. Today, Jonathan and I discuss:

  • Why a secondary marketplace is needed for applications
  • How some of his customers are making great money selling their apps
  • How businesses looking to dive into applications have an opportunity to save time, money and resources by purchasing existing apps
  • Why its not just about your app but more the strategy and use case for the app that makes a difference

If you’re looking to to get into app development, are looking to build an app for your business or just want to learn from a smart entrepreneur you’ll definitely enjoy the show.
